No fish at mornington

Post by Aaronvgp » Sat Oct 03, 2015 1:16 pm

I went to Mornington pier on Thursday night for a few hours for zero bites but was so impressed with the pier I decided to try again early this morning. I fished 4 and a bit hours starting 2 hours before high tide. 3 little taps is all I got and only one person caught a small trevally. Getting into fishing around Melbourne has been a bit deflating. I'll try again next week, maybe hit mt Martha rocks. I should have tried catching a few of the hundreds of blowies right at the start of Mornington pier.

There are fish there, just not so easy to catch. I was there Sunday on the boat and noticed only one of the hundred guys on the pier was catching fish, he had everything from zebra fish to pinkies and trevally. There are also a lot of calamari there although not many bigger than 500g and they were caught by some guys off the point, casting from the rocks.
Cheers Aussie

I was using pilchards, squid, pippies, used berley, even tried soft plastics slowly retrieved on the bottom or a bit faster about half way down. Plenty of people there by the time I left but yeah no action at all.

I have seen exactly one decent fish come off that Jetty since it re opened.

Waiting for a really really big southerly to have a snapper bash. The squid are still good off the little one.

Think I'll have to give it a miss till the bigger fish start coming back. I very nearly went to mt Martha rocks today instead, kind of wish I had lol.
I think I'll hit a few local spots. Ftg quarry has had a couple of good reviews lately, lilydale lake and maybe get to Rowville.

Dont feel deflated, thats landbased fishing. Keep trying, results will come eventually.

As fish-hunter said keep persisting.

You'll start to figure out locations and patterns and get into more fish.

It's warming up too so should get a little easier

Was there on Friday am for 4 hours. Same result. There were some squid around. Good to be out in the sun!
