Morning at Martha

Post by FishnMiss » Sat Jul 11, 2015 5:57 pm

I headed to Martha this morning with a mate, getting there arojnd 7:15. The wind was blowing NNW with the waves running at an angle onto the rocks. We got our lines all sorted & baited & got ready. About 20 mins later tap tap & I'm on Yeeeha, in comes a nice fat Sambo 39cm Sweet. About 15 mins later I see a pod of Dolphins chasing some fish & about 50 meters in front of them are birds diving. Some dolphins came about 40 metres from us but where the birds were diving was about 200 metres (although I did try cast in that direction Hahaha). It was an amazing sight. About 10 mins my mate gets some action & bang he's on. While he starts to reel in I get a bite & oh yeah I'm on. In the meantime as he gets his fish to the rocks just in front of us his pyramid sinker wedges into a rock - Aaaargh Noooo. He's trying his best to get it, getting soaked too. I quickly pull my fish in, another Sambo smaller than the first but a nice fat 34cm. I put my rod & fish down ssfely and go help him. I took the rod & moved to the opposite side of him and moved closer to the fish (I had rain pants & water resistant boots). I kept my eyes on the waves watching out for the odd rogue wave which were around. I thought I'd lost it a few times.
Finally I managed to free the sinker and Oh yeah a nice juicy 36cm Pinkie. My mate was really rapt. About 20 mins later bang I'm on again- Sweet. Hmmm feels like a fat Snapper not very fast & trying to head for the rock face underside. I pull it through the Surf & Oh Baby a nice fat 47cm Sambo. Gutted and with head off weighed 800gms.
Yum tonight I'm having Thai Salmon fish cakes, chips n salad (Hey where's the drooling Emoticon with knife & fork).
Anyway I gave my mate the 2 smaller Sambos to go with his Snapper cause he's never eaten them before. We packed up around 10:15 happy with our catch.

Nice going. I was at that same spot yesterday morning, got a couple of bites but nothing landed.

Thanks everyone.
It was raining a fair bit around 4:45am when I got up & I thought it was going to be a wet & windy fishing session but it was mostly windy with sunshine but not bad at all.
