safety beach 2/6

Post by brycieboy » Tue Jun 02, 2015 8:51 pm

well i have just moved back to Dromana. the whole point of moving back is to be closer to family and friends and the water. luckily i had some spare annual leave and decided to take a few days off.. after a few days of bad weather i drove past the water today on my way to get some bait for tomorrow and found it flat. went home and grabbed the boat and was on the water around 4pm to get a few hours in. with only a few boats out and me fishing solo i decided to try for some squid and test out some of my new jigs ( all caught on one of my old jigs). a few drifts later and i had a few in the boat. biggest hood was around 22cm.

i was also stopped by fisheries who were waiting for me at the ramp. they could of helped me retrieve the boat instead of watching from the darkness..

a quick check of my catch and licence and they were on their way. good to see them out and about.

Thanks for the report :a_goodjob:
I envy you boys living so close to the bay and back beaches.
What are you hoping to chase with the squid?

These two things have a lot to do with each other!

You'll find if you target a specific species and time your session in the right conditions, or figure out your conditions then use that to determine a fish to chase you might get onto quite a few more!

You are probably better than you think mate, that isnt a bad bag! But seriously, start targetting a species at a time, and your catches will increase.

Nice squid.
Once you know where to get squid, you can grab a few fresh squid when ya first go out n then try n turn the squid into a gumbo or snapper.

well today i only ended up with 2 flathead. 1 at 32 and 1 at 34, had alot just on size but threw them back also had a lot of small ones. no luck on the squid today and also lost a new jig when the braid snapped on a cast....

tho i am getting much better at launching and retrieving by my self. just need to remember how deep i can walk in my gumboots before they fill up... cold wet feet at the start of the day is no good.
