Hey all,

The plan was to go to Pt Leo to chase some Gummies last night :wt: The conditions were great, only a light onshore wind.

We went to Mt Martha rocks at about 730pm to chase some fresh squid, picked up 2 in an hour and headed off to Pt Leo just as the last light was fading. I'm not sure if others were catching calamari at the rocks, although I didn't see any pulled in. A few other fishos mentioned they didnt have much luck.

Got to Pt Leo, set up and casted. We were there from about 9 to 11.30. I think I had my line in the water for about 45mins, the rest of the time my mate and I were trying to undo the bloody kung fu knots that our lines were in with all the weed we were pulling in. I haven't dealt with weed this bad in my life. Our lines legitimately came back in a ball mixed with weed haha. My mate lost a fair bit of line, it happens. I think next time I see some weed, I'll think twice before casting.

After getting frustrated and cutting our lines, we headed over to Mornington pier for about an hour to pick up another 2 squid.

Wasn't too happy that we couldn't properly chase some gummies on a lovely night, but other than that it was still a great evening picking up some fresh bait and having a laugh with mates. I'll have another go at them soon hopefully :tu:

I hate it when there’s heaps of weed around!
Have experienced that before a few times 😂
Better luck next time with the gummies mate.
Cheers 👍🏻

Weed can ruin any session. For future reference, there are plenty of squid off the beach in that entire stretch of coast from flinders to Somers. It's hard to target them with a jig but a silver whiting 1.5m under a float should deliver and save you messing about at two different spots.

Thanks guys.

I shall give the whiting under a float a try. Good idea re saving time travelling also.
