First time fishing the Southern end of the Port with success!

So i've been wanting to fish the Western Channel/Entrance for a long time now, but upgrading gear has been a factor and well.. that costs $$$.
New anchor, new rods/reels and all the bits that go with it.
22 January:
Gave my mate Josh a call the day before and asked if he wanted to come along. We launched from Yaringa at 5am and motored down to BP Bait shop jetty :rofl: . Straight away onto some Slimeys (my favourite gummy bait) & Yakkas. 30 Minutes had passed and we left BP, heading straight down the north arm into the Western. The plan today was to fish deep at buoy12 with a slow flood tide, that being ideal. Set up ready to go, and in no time a buckled rod screaming and head thumping hard. I think my buddy Josh should invest in some gear if he wants to come down there next time :rofl: , my top end snapper setups defnintely didn't do him any favours. I only have 2 setups capable for down here. I kid you not, the thing, we believe to be a Bronzie... spooled the reel in 40 seconds. It was absolutely smoking, we smoke wafting off the reel, being too hot to tough and a distinctive burning smell. I've never seen a run like it. Next, a Seven giller run away with the bait and snipped me off. A couple hours of dealing with **** fish and we were back on. As soon as the tide started to slow down, another bite off. Then another buckle and run, this one was a big Shark, leaning towards Seven Giller. I fought it for 20 minutes and then it snipped me off. No Gummy... but out of the blue, bang another buckle with me calling it as a Snapper from the start! Must be lost or something... although the water is cooler in the deep down south there as opposed to majority of the port. went 4kg on the dot. I didn't get what i came for, but being the first time fishing the area, cant complain!
26 January:
The Saturday this weekend been was quiet, which was a surprise. Although the swell from buoy 7 onwards was horrific with tide against wind. Waves standing up and all sorts, so Down that way was off limits. Tried a few spots but the Tides being big, made it hard work and not the easiest to fish with little experience of the areas. I think ill stick to slow tides that are coming up this weekend. Any how, a school of salmon popped up around buoy 12, which was good to add a bit more variety with our yakkas, cowenyoung and slimies. Down to the shallows of the southern end we went in 10m on some nice reef. We sat majority of the tide out missing the first hour. The last two hours came good as it usually does on the bigger floods, with two nice Gummies and another Seven gill. GET EM AWAY FROM ME!
Looking forward to fishing it more and more and im sure that PB gummy over 10kegs isnt far away. Cheers fellas, hope everyone had a good Australia day. P.S never will i go fishing on a public holiday again! Hastings ramp was RIDICULOUS.
