Quick report - Boss time @merricks beach

Post by happyfriggincamper » Mon Oct 09, 2017 10:17 pm

The missus wanted to take advantage of the nice weather Sunday and I've been wanting to have my first attempt at land based fishing in one of the two bays for a while - so a "picnic" at the beach was the suggestion.

With strong wind from the west, merricks Beach seemed like a good choice. It was well sheltered, but there was a pretty strong fertiliser smell coming in - so don't know if that's a common feature of that beach or not? It lost points with the missus but I could put up with it in the persuit of fishing haha.

As luck had it, it looked like we got there on the high tide change so I was hoping the chicken breast from woolies would be enough to get some whiting, but failing that anything would have been OK with me to start things off. Ended up with a few leatherjacket and a couple of these around 30cm - don't know what they are. Good day out - and I didn't look like a hack Fisherman which I usually end up looking like on the few times the missus comes haha. :water:

Cheers - Chris

Good to see you caught a few HFC, that's a certainly Wrasse (Notolabrus tetricus) which are pretty common.. the flesh is good snapper bait..
The fertilizer smell may have been the seaweed too.. Still it's always nice to get out and wet a line..

cheers
