Anyone heard of gummys or makos between Cowes and Flinders?

Post by smile0784 » Thu Mar 10, 2016 12:25 pm

Hi
I'm thinking of heading down towards Flinders.
A mate told me that there been a few caught out that way.

Just wondering if any one else has see the reports or caught any down that way?

Or has anyone else caught much down that way recently?

Cheers Ricki

In a boat yeah Ricki? Western entrance has a good reputation for both.

Gumbos yep, as feb always fires up for the big girls in WP. The edge of the channel round buoy 13 is a good place to start as it often produces the goods. Take plenty of lead with you though.
Although they do enter the bay from time to time, Makos are better targetted outside. And if the conditions allow, I'd be looking for a kingie too :)

Plenty of Gummies. Not many of huge size but some solid fish coming in. Some good pinkies too. And as fishnmiss said, the **** fish are coming in

Yeah caught my first Elephant only 2 years back now. They don't taste too bad if you bleed them right & put in esky, leave in fridge overnight. Okay with beer batter or nice chunky Green curried stew.
But the Gummies are less work to get them to the table and taste better.

Very few if any makos. Not worth targeting there.

I'll be going to Shoreham tomorrow and then up to Point Leo once I've got a few squid. Hopefully there are a few gummies about.
