Hastings 21/2/16

Post by Scraglor » Sun Feb 21, 2016 3:36 pm

I finally remembered to take an obligatory sunrise pic to put with the report. Anyways, launched this morning out of Hastings, with Willy Weather yesterday telling me it would drop off too 1 knot by 8am.

By 7:30 we had been bouncing around like a cork for a couple of hours, patiently waiting for it too drop off, the app saying it was blowing 3knots. Meanwhile, I was tightening the string on my hat, so I didnt lose it. It blew a steady 15 knots all morning (It did die down after we got home) Regardless, the wind was blowing perpendicular to the tide, so even though the boat was moving around a bit, it wasnt too choppy when it was all said and done.

Didnt get any action until first light, when things picked up a little, and got a dozen nice size whiting and 5 good pinkies in the mid thirties. quite a few 28-32 models when back in for next year. after an hour things slowed down, so the call was made to move. This was a mistake as the anchor was jammed under something solid, so we had to tie off the rope, and use the motor to free it up, which bent one of the blades right out of shape. Unfortunately we could no longer hold anchor, so that was the end of the trip. We tried a few sheltered areas in the hope of getting another couple of fish, but ended up heading in. All in all it wasnt a bad way to spend a morning.
