Found the whiting again - finally

Post by Scraglor » Mon Feb 15, 2016 7:19 pm

I have had a couple of lean weeks on the whiting, since late Jan I have really struggled to find them. My problem is I have been trying to fish marks that produce over christmas, however the fish have obviously moved on, as I had the same results last year around this time.

Luckily did a bit of experimenting this weekend. Anchored up and jagged a couple of nice table sized pinkies while I studied the sounder and punched in some spots I thought looked productive. After three moves we found them, and ended with 20 odd whiting, a few pinkies and a couple of solid high 40s rock flatties.

Apologies I didnt take any photos, but I didnt think of it until I was scaling my share, so only really have an after pic. I'll keep working on the scenic shots.

It just goes to show that when things slow down, you need to improvise and experiment, and that keeping a diary is very important, as ive really been starting to notice that fish tend to be very predictable from year to year.

Nah, unfortunately they werent much in the way of size, low-mid 30's, with maybe 2 bigger models. Lately the flatties have been 35-45cm, which is perfect dinner size imo. I got a 62 the other day, but went back to keep up the good work.
