Flinders Pier - outgoing tide

Post by ChrisD » Tue Jan 26, 2016 8:19 pm

This coming Friday evening will see me down Merricks way, and I was eyeing off Fliders pier for a crack at something different.
Note the tide will be out going - does anyone have any experience down there and can offer some tips? or if it is no good on the outgoing tide is there any suggestions of somewhere else in that area? I am not familiar with WPB at all.
Only have a couple of general purpose rods - so surf fishing is out.
Happy to cast around a few small squid jigs and throw a bait out for whatever is biting.
any tips would be great, thanks

You can do pretty well on squid there but its been slow recently. I fish with a small float off the lower decks for trevally and whiting, can be a few couta and salmon on dusk if you are lucky.
Cast, catch and put it back

What are you targeting Chris ? I've caught squid on the incoming and out going tides, when float fishing for scale fish I found the incoming slightly better.
He who has the most fishing rods WINS ! :ts:

Will throw a few squid jigs and hope for a squid or two - other than that will drop out a baited line and happy to catch anything that comes along

I seen an old w** guy at the very end on the right hand side catching whiting last week. He had 5 all up and caught 2 of those whilst i watched him in 15 minutes. Then 2 other people basically moved right next to him and threw in his hole.
I forgot how much i hate pier fishing. All the best though

Yeah well that's pretty much what happens on most piers...

Thanks for the tips all. Been checking the weather report and tomorrow looks like it could be a tad wet and wild to be standing on a pier.
Think I will be waiting to last minute to decide if i go or not....and will have a back up plan ready. Maybe if it gets too windy and unpredictable I will swing by the Patterson River instead, it is still on teh way home and not too far out of the way.
I haven't done any pier fishing for a long while - the crowds worry me a bit as well.
Guess I will just be playing the day by ear.

The crowds shouldn't be to bad tomorrow. The peninsula is almost back to normal, with most holiday makers leaving Tues.
I just drove past the beach and not 1 person down there, where as this time last week, you couldn't find a spot.

Also the weather will keep the anglers away so you are in with a good chance.
