Fishing 27th, 28th and 29th

Post by Scraglor » Wed Dec 30, 2015 11:04 am

There seems to be plenty of whiting about lately, so I thought I would take advantage of the holidays and give them a crack. i have been planning to try and get a couple of mates onto fish for a while now, and the weather gods seem to be smiling at the moment, so it seemed as good a time as any.

Had a reasonably productive time, with mussels being far and away the best bait. Having them shucked and ready to go is super important as when you have a school under the boat you want to be able to your baits back down, and having to crack them open each time you bring a fish in means you catch less fish. We also got a few on squid, however the mussels were clearly better. The tide changes really seemed to fire them up.

Final tally;
27th: 21 whiting
28th: 18 whiting
29th: 28 whiting

We also got a few pinkies, a bunch of flatties, and the other typical westernport bycatch.

Fish ranged in size from 31cm to 44cm.

I apologise in advance for the terrible photos, I'm going to have to lift my game in that department, you other guys on here take some ripper pics.

Haha yeah, to be honest, I went fishing with different people each day, so once you split the catch up, and give a few to the family and neighbours, it isn't a huge amount.

I also vac seal seal the extras whole, gutted and gilled, and if you pull them out of the freezer the night before, and put them in the fridge, they come out as good as fresh.

(I also eat a lot of fish. Lol)

Yeah, once they're cleaned and various people have been given their share there isn't much left over. Once the big gummy I caught a while back was neatly packaged up in ziplock bags it looked so small I wondered how it'd been so hard to get it on the boat.
