I usually keep the heads whole if its not too large. Rig up 2 snelled 5/0, one at the head and another through one of the candles. Best bait out there especially if its fresh.
If you could keep the guts intact, freeze it, good for burley pot.

A couple of these heads were pretty big. I normally just have a single 5/0 circle, so I was just to pin the head through the top between the eyes so the bait hangs beneath the hook and leaves the gape clear.

I might get out after some snapper this week, weather and finances permitting.

It hasn't always been very spectacular but I'm yet to have a donut session on the yak in saltwater, always a few just size flatties or something around.

Great haul u got there. So envy. Been squidding around brighton area for 3 sessions with one 20cm+ squid caught. Not even enough for one snapper session. Well done mate.

Some seriously good squid mate, my PB is 33cm. Although most of it is at martha where I think they are usually smaller.

I would've been happy with any size squid honestly, I'd never caught them before until last week so get straight into some really big ones was cool. I'm still hoping for a 40cm+ squid to turn up before the breeding season finishes, I was in the right place for them.

Great catch!! Quick question, when using the squid heads for bait do you leave all the tentacles on or just a couple? I was thinking if you leave the big candles on you might get a lot of small fish taking nibbles.

I've cut them all off except for on the smaller heads but I don't know what more experienced people do with them.
