had a day trip down the bay today for snapper
we decided to have a crack at the snapper today with the Murray cod feeding aggressively on the Goulburn and us not wanting to catch them while there breeding.
It was only a day trip so we left Echuca around 11 pm last night in a convey of 3 boats and 9 blokes.Stopped in for a steak sandwhich at the taxi allnighter in north melb and then launched the boats ! I was surprised but we had to wait 30 mins to get our boats in even at 3am !!!
We travelled to a few marks I use to fish when I was in Melbourne for a few small snapper and one nice fish around 5 kg which was caught on a soft plastic.
We then sounded around the edges in 4 to 5 meters of water and located heaps of nice fish but they proved very hard to land.Between the 3 Boats we landed two nice fish, the biggest being 9 kgs.The little snapper were a pain though.
We then wanted some breakfast so we moved onto a sandflat and caught half a dozen flatheads and cooked them up fresh with spinach and lemon sauce...I forgot how nice fresh flathead are !!!!
We then went to a old mark and found a really big school of fish,we had a session of abt half a hour when we landed some nice snapper and lost a couple of real big fish !! The biggest I landed was 11kg .We were at our bag limit so we then spent a few hrs trying in vain to catch squid !..we couldn't find any but we got talking to a bloke at the boat ramp who had some so in the old fashion barder we swapped snapper and a gps co ordinate for some squid....win/win for us all !!
Long drive back to the Gv but it was great to get back to the bay and see it so full of fish still !!
cheers bm

Well worth the trip BM, very nice fish there. Re the cod, my mate has been hooking them while fishing for yella's so his going to change his fishing location for that reason too, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them
