Haven't gone to the tackle shop yet to buy anything specific but got given a second hand rod and line.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
Welcome to the site! I'm not into saltwater fishing so I am unable to help. You may be able to help those in the know by letting them know what your rod / reel is like. Roughly how long the rod is and how big the reel is. If you are not that well versed with fishing gear, you may find some details on the rod, above the grips.
thanks

If your fishing piers, 6'6" is fine, (I'm presuming something like 1-4kg line rating), allied to a 1000 size reel, no worries for your bread and butter species. 4 or 5kg line and your all set.

I might try the Patterson river aswell. Just not sure where i should head to specific. Who's got some special places to go? This wind at the moment is killing any motivation to head out.

Do a search for 'patto' or 'Patterson' here and a few threads will pop up! Just have a look through them at this point unless someone else helps you out here.
