I fished the mouth of the Patto River yesterday for about 2 hours with a few small bites but didn't catch anything. Just as we were starting to get some bites a bloke came along with a big pole and was trying to re-claim lost lures from the rocks around the bridge. After he rocked up the bites stopped so we moved to the Mordy Pier for an hour and a half and had no luck.

The water was VERY clear and almost glassy for most of the day.
The only thing better than serenity is a two stroke at full throttle!

Vella wrote:Speaking of large fish in Patterson river, a couple of weeks ago I saw something interesting, bear with my explanation.... Imagine a shark swimming with it's dorsal fin out of the water, see how the water makes like bow waves? Now take the fin out of the picture. I saw this moving up the river, about 1m from the edge. You could have jumped on top and wrestled it if you got the timing right.... Would that have been an elusive Jewie?
Water rats ("Rakali") make a bow wave which, in the dark, could be mistaken for mulloway cruising on the surface, like in this video:

Late one night in the lower Yarra, hours into waiting for "Secret Silver" me and a mate saw 3 bow waves moving in parallel, 20m offshore, by the light of the moon. We both saw it at the same time, and we both said "Mulloway!........... oh no just rats". We felt like fools!

There's heaps of those water rats at patto. They live in the rocks. I saw 2 running along the rocks.
