HAHAHA its the best time for to go there and take pics of the dead fish with a lure in its mouth and put up a report saying i caught so many bream

on a serious note.
i think the closing of the floodgates is probably what killed them, as theres not much waterflow when the gates are closed.

Hi Mate,
I think it was more the Weed/Algae choking the place and sucking all the oxygen out of the water.
Most of the fish dying has happened where the Weed/Algae was really thick.

Seaweed produces oxygen.

It wasn't seaweed that has been choking the system in the ends of each of the canals it was an Algae Bloom that has been getting worse over the past few months.
In the land locked lagooons of Patterson Lakes it has caused serious trouble killing birds etc and the land owners have been trying to get sorted out with Melbourne Water for sometime now.

There's been sporadic fish kills in the seaford swamplands (Patto lakes/river and eel race/kananook creek). Neither system is adequately designed as far as environmental water flows around the systems to manage algae blooms or dead spots, especially during hot dry spells or high rainfalls that force the closure of the gates and Water authorities are next to useless. There was a major major kill in kananook only 7 or so years ago after the pump from the lakes into eel race effectively **** itself causing already prevalent algae to bloom. That was as usual downplayed by authorities (Melbourne water), but was very noticeable when even Eels were turning up dead as far downstream as mile bridge.
