They're Red Rock-cod, or Bearded Rock-cod, not Rock Ling (although reasonably closely related.)

They are actually not bad eating, although they tend to have a few small bones along the sides, when filleted.

The fillets are a little soft, but finely-grained and mild flavour. They steam very well.

Cheers,

Mike.

In the spirit of sustainable fishing I thought I'd give em a go but they are boney shitties and I now consider them rubbish fish. Case closed.

As soon asI sliced the first filthy specimen open I new it wouldn't pass master. I'm not a fish snob but they are just rubbish. What a disappointment. The boat is going well though and i had the bay to myself which was good

Ive tried filleting one before (I like to try most things - sashimi yakka is good!) and never again, gross.
