Nude up wrote:Banjo's can be a pain especially if you burley they are like vacumn cleaners, when you sound around the artificial reefs did you see any fish on the sounder if not move on. At this time of the year most snapper are caught at night with pinkies being caught during the day you are certainly in the right area. Not every fisho catches snapper every trip even when the season is in full swing.
You need to target the prime times dawn dusk change of tides etc. at this time of year I would be targeting squid and flathead drifting is a good option if you are drifting to fast invest in a drouge chute.

ive got a mate and he is the best ive seen at catching banjors.....he would love to know were you have been catching yours

Turn fish icon off, should be in settings somewhere. Thats just a garbage feature.

If you drift you will catch more flatties than anchored. Use smaller cubes of pilies rather than whole ones. banjos are attracted to burley and flesh baits.

What rig do you use? paternosters with longish sinker drops to keep bait off bottom will reduce banjo catch rate. Can avoid them completely

Pinkies are best found sounding around for schools.

If you are after just anything edible to take home then drifting for flatties is your best bet. There is always the chance of something else jumping on the hook

Ive been using a rig with 2 4/0 suicides with either one running and one secured or both secured mostly, been catching the occasional small flatty but nothing worth eating. Also gonna learn how to do a paternoster for targetting flatties after hearing so many people recommend them. Any specific bait you prefer using when targetting flatty?

Hey hammy
Like you just learning the bay for fishing. I have found the best flattie bait is the off cuts when you fillet them. The skin is so tough it keeps the bait on the hook exceptionally well.

Dont go too big on baits for flatties, just 1cm long cuts of pillies, mussels, prawn, squid tentacles. If you run out of bait even cuts of flatties. They are not overly picky. Try a selecton and see what works. They even hit soft plastics just left dragging along the bottom.

They also tend to hang around in patches. Bigger models are often surprisingly close in near drop offs etc.

For PPB paternosters just use a light sinker, just enough to keep it on bottom when drifting
