After catching nothing more than a cold after countless hours pier fishing for snapps last season, I made a small investment recently in a little savage 3.8m tinny. Much to the mrs disgust
haha. After getting through a pretty hectic work schedule recently I finally got some time to commit the snapper season and smashed out through the chop quite a few times this week on dusk with the 15hp purring.
Launching from ST Kilda, I had spent most of the time early week raiding the cradle and pulling up countless pinkies anchored up near port Melbourne/princes pier. By the second trip I slowly worked my way out further after getting more comfortable with what my little vessel could handle. By day two, I found myself out with the big boats on the edge of the shipping channel at T11 and It has been on for young and old all week. Twenty snapper for the week (in four nights) and another 10 lost due to rougher seas and no stand up leverage for jezzalenko on the little vessel. They have been going nuts this week. I haven't seen anything like it. I even came across a swirl of spawning snapper stacked up in 10 metres all the way to the surface. Intense!
The spirit of Tasmania travelling past often brought on instant three way hook ups and we almost welcomed the big girl cruising past daily to bring on the fish. I'm off OS for the month but 100% satisfied after four nights straight of absolute mayhem. Even the lads in the big boats are shocked I committed a fish given some of the conditions this week.
