Princes Pier - horror story

Post by retortery » Sun Oct 12, 2014 10:00 am

Hi guys - reporting live from Princes Pier.

Been here for a few hours without anything substantial and about 20 mins ago one of my rod starts screaming and almost pulled into the water. Five mins later I've got a +60cm +5kg Snapper in the water near the pylons. The thing dove down one last time towards the pylons and *pop* - there goes the line.

I've never caught a snapper over 700grams in 1yr of Melbourne fishing. This is devastating. Am still shaking and muttering obscenities.

Very upset!

Tim.
I fish therefore I am.

It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

Happens to everybody at least you got to see it, nothing worse fighting something for 20 mins then ping and not knowing what it was.

Bugger!! That's a bit rough. Those mussel encrusted pylons have brought a premature end to many a battle, including 1 or 2 of my own in the past, so I do feel your pain mate. Chin up and keep at it. Better luck next time!
Out of interest, were you using a surf rod or a standard length rod? The length of surf rods can be very handy for leverage when battling a fish in those circumstances.
