Fished Williamstown from 5am yesterday morning in 7m, just lots of small pinkies around. Didn’t hear or see any of the boats turn a reel either. I feel like it still might be a couple more weeks before the snapper come in. Keep an eye out for reports, won’t be long now.

It’s a great time for lb fishing!
Had a good run but got snagged and busted off Saturday fishing off the rocks at black rock! I’m sure it was a big red.
Good luck 👍🏻

I was just about to ask the same question, as I am heading out from Altona tomorrow.

I guess I’ll throw in one line for the big red and focus on some flatties and pinkies instead.

Not sure about every one else, but I have really been struggling to bring anything into the boat these days. I’m used to eyeballing my flatties on whether or not I want to keep them. But now I find my self measuring each one to determine if it’s a keeper. Struggling!

Have tried Ferguson St pier a few times lately and not caught a thing, soft plastics and bait, around the pylon's and not even a nibble. Will try the warmies next. What's the best there, bait or lures?

As far as flathead go, you used to be able to catch them by the ton but even the couple across the road who have a place down the peninsula and go out in their boat regularly catch whiting now as flathead are rare.

The current can be strong there and snaggy. Bait is better. Soft plastic during slack tide is okay.
