Highly unlikely it wasn’t a tuna in that area mate.

I doubt that, I don't even think you get Tuna up here. The water maybe 10m or so at the deepest.
I think it may be Rays sitting at the entrance to the boat ramp or Mulloway, either way it's a big powerful fish.
Time to ramp the tackle size up and line weights and give it a go.

That’s the way mate!!! I’d want to find out what it is...especially if you have encountered it a couple of times now.

Moby **** [ at .5 kg drag for 2 minutes non stop your spool would have had to be 500 meters]

Keep trying mate you will catch him one day.

Use your drag as much as possible, patience if you have a good hook up it's in the bag take your time the big fish is not going an where. If he or she needs more rope give it to it,as you feel more confident tighten the drag. A lot of fishos loose there big fish because of bad knots,or being inpatient, or the fish just got stuck in a snag. What happened to you mate could have happened to anyone. Stay in control. Pros from here have caught 5kg fish with 2kg line. Just make sure you or your buddy has a landing net.

PS most of my reels are bait runners and i set my drag to what ever fish i am chasing.

I had the fish on for three or four minutes, it was pulling line for two mins, I was reeling in some too, I could feel the fish weight and three heavy nods. I must have had 100 yards of line off of my reel, then it just stopped and I couldn't budge it, just unfortunate I was fishing light for Bream at the time.
I have been back a couple of times with heavier gear and not caught anything larger than a 57cm flathead.
Persistence will win in the end though mate.

So it’s not like the fish spooled you. At one point you were actually getting some line back mate?
