Running sinker rig or paganoster rig for bottom fish with 10 or 20lb leaders and 40lb or so if tryig for gummys.

Squit strips or pilchard strips for smaller dush upto 30cm pinkies and 1/2 pilchards for bigger or squid heads for gummys
Thanks mate!

I think I'm going to target some Flathead!
Flathead eat anything but i found pilchard cube and squid strips on paganoster rig are best just make sure bait stays on the bottom

Flatties have a huge mouth so caught them on all size hooks small and large. Sinker usually just use a size 2 or 3 :)

Does it matter the surf rod?
Going to go down to BCF to get one as I've only ever fished in rivers.

I used to see guys using long surf rods during snapper season off the end but that was quite awhile ago now mate.
Can’t see why not?

What rating and length are your current rods?

Surf rods probably give you more casting distance but a 6 or 7 foot rod will catch them also

Make your whole rig about 60 to70 cm.
Line from rod to snap allow 20cm line then first loop of about 10cm and 1/0 long shank hook then 30cm gap then next loop of 10cm and 1/0 long shank then aour 20cm of line to tie on sinker

There’s meant to be some FAD’s on the south western end of the pier, I found the marks on the net somewhere a year or more ago. I put the co ordinates in my sounder and sounded around there a couple of times but never saw anything conclusive. From memory the marks were within a long casting distance from the pier.
I did find a shimano surf rod with reel and line and ray still alive and attached about 100m off the pier, released the ray and tried to located the owner but no one on the pier knew anything about it.
Anyway there was quite a bit of rubble and weed beds around the south east end of the pier from memory, so squid could be around to if you’re keen on them.
Good luck.
