Altona Easter Sunday
We (missus and me) had a well anticipated sleep in on Sunday morning and decided to take advantage of the afternoon tide for a fish.
Stopped on the way at the old 7/11 on the ring road to top up with servo bait and guess what ? The dirty stinking main freezer was bone dry !
I had my own squid heads and whole couta from my previous Mornington trip so I decided to make do with that and spent almost $60 on 2 packs of sangas and a pack of smokes. Damn expensive those sandwiches ha ha.
Hit Altona ramp about midday expecting all those who bought the bait from the 7/11 to be there, but was surprised the main car park was less than 1/2 full and the water was beautiful- beauty.
Launched and headed to our usual spot, set up and burleyed up. Within an hour we had these specimens each. Very happy with that.
Over the next few hours had 7 other boats anchor up around us, and one fella drift past a few times.
Over the next 3 hours we landed 15-20 banjos, 1 massive ray bust off and 3 probable gummies bust off, could tell from the big run and head shakes. As opposed to the banjos, who quietly suck the bait then pull like a gum boot. I blame the improved clinch knot as I purposely experimented on my rigs I had set up previously.
For gummies I was using snell rig with a small sinker, tying the top hook with a uni and the lower hook with the improved clinch. Each of the three bust offs saw the top hook still present and the tail of leader from the uni tied hook ok, the clinch knot failed.
Lesson learned.
Between all the gummies and banjos we landed 7 flattys as well.
Headed back to the ramp about 4 and found 2 fisheries fellas loitering at the ramp.
They were both in a very serious mood and I was happily expecting a boat inspection. After docking and walking to my car I stopped to ask how their day was going, as said they maintained their very serious outlook and asked if I'd caught anything. I openly explained my catch and they tested my knowledge of legal gummy requirements which was no problem.
To my surprise they left me alone after that even after retrieving the boat in the closest lane to them. They just watched. No worries.
So headed home and washed down the boat , trailer and a cold beer.
Great day.

Thanks Bowl and Brownie, mate don’t play yourself down, these gummies make up for those days I go for a joy ride and get donuts for fish ha ha.
Even then I just love being on the boat. And mucking around in the boat. Catching a feed is a bonus.
Cheers

Yes there’s heaps of banjos. They are buggers to get hooks out of to coz they clamp down their hard lips as soon as you put any pressure on the hook to remove it.
Thats the down side of bottom fishing on the pick.
