Altona Gummy session

Post by Yota » Mon Dec 11, 2017 10:52 am

Headed out Sunday morning with my wife launched at 5:45 and went straight to out regular spot straight out from Altona in 9m of water.
My missus got the first score on the board with a fat 42cm flatty.
High tide came at 9ish and I got my first gummy shortly after that, not huge but well over legal length.
After about an hour and a few more solid flathead between us both we had a few banjos and a couple of rays and bust offs, we both bagged out out decent size gummy’s until Sammy seal turned up. At the time my wife and I were both hooked up to gummy’s and I paused the retrieve to help net my wife’s gummy when Sammy made his surprise appearance. I actually had my 3rd gummy on the line and Sammy took care of my bag limit.
After Sammy busted my line I packed up and let my wife fish on, but the fish were spooked and we got nothing after Sammys visit.
Packed up and in the car by 12:015pm.
Bait was servo pilchards
Rigs were small sinker straight onto 2 snelled 5/0 hooks.
Braid line with a 50lb mono trace.

I tried to add the video of Sammy ripping my gummy apart from a distance but it’s not going to work from a phone.

Good work getting your target fish mate! Seems like you know the area well. Cheers for the report.

Don't you hate it when sammy shows up, seems to arrive at the wrong times all the time, at least you got a few though

Yep with the gummy’s it was one after the other it was like a gummy hiway ha ha ha.
But jeez that seal is huge when you see it up close. And big canine teeth on it too.
My missus said to me “will it tip the boat” shebwas a bit worried. Ha ha ha.

Do you regularly have that much success with gummies at Altona?
