Willy-Altona-St.Kilda Snapper Report

Post by TheGreatestGoat » Thu Nov 09, 2017 3:17 pm

Gday All,

So after a pretty frustrating trip on Sunday where my anchor winch broke, barely wet a line, a guy nearly crashed into my boat at 30 knots and a 2 hour boat retrieval, was looking for a trip turnaround this morning. With conditions looking ideal a pre-work fish was on the cards!

Got down to warmies at about 5 and the plan was to shoot over to Fawkner Beacon as some mates have been getting them there, and don’t often get conditions to suit a trip further afield in a boat my size.
Called the FB trip off when the sounder lit up in 11.5m out from Willy so dropped the pick. Wasn’t too long before a 69cm fish was on board which turned out to be the biggest of the morning. Was being real finicky, I thought it was a pinky so went to change the bait but as soon as I lifted the rod was on.

Managed to pick up another couple of fish in the 1-2 kilo range, but was getting hammered by smaller stuff. Decided to continue on to Fawkner Beacon and fish the 7.40 tide change and change of scenery. Found some in 15 metres north west of Fawkner but realized I was pretty much out of bait so called it a day. I threw a few back and kept some school fish for a feed and got a couple of flatties as well which I prefer anyway.

Ripper little session! With weather looking good again hopefully get out tomorrow morning for another crack.

Cheers,
Goat

Thanks all!

Here's another one I picked up this morning out near Fawkner Beacon. Rod actually buckled when the cops were writing me a ticket for having a flat battery in my torch ;-) then told me I better go in... so trip cut short. Ah well.

Yep! Turned out that it wasn't anything serious. The rope had come loose from the drum so was just spinning on itself. Got it sorted pretty quickly
