Wasn’t planning on heading out for a fish last night but got home from work and was stinging to get out. Launched at Willy at about 8pm and headed out to the Footy Ground area sounding between 7-10 metres. Plenty of fish 2-3 metres off the bottom/mid water column but took some persistence to find some feeding fish on the bottom. After around 30 mins found some good marks in 9m.
Been practicing with my anchor winch and after some pretty ordinary efforts seem to be starting to get the hang of it and was able to put the boat 15m from the mark.
Had not finished laying out the spread of rods and got a buckle. Landing this 64cm fish, the first of season 2017, succumbing to a whole pilchard (shout outs to Vancouver bait supply – top pillies)
Fished for a couple more hours and got another run but everything went quiet despite lots of fish on the sounder, hard to get them to eat…still a bit fickle with water temperature being low still (possibly?)
Cheers,
Goat

As a matter of interest how long do people burley up a spot before calling a spade and moving on?
