Spearfishing 29/11/2016
So with the warmer weather approaching, a friend and I decided to go check out a spot we have done very well in the past spearfishing.
We usually have best results around a low tide as you can wade out further and cover more ground and with a later low tide last night we decided to give it a go.
We reached our destination around 9 and quickly sorted out the gear and started looking around by 9:15.
The water was clear which is what we were hoping for but at first it was slightly choppy, but most of the time we are only in about knee deep of water so it was ok.
Started seeing good size fish straight away. We weren't sure at first if they were good size whitings or mullet. Hitting a moving target isn't easy and so we missed many. Turns out they were mullet. But no ordinary mullets. Monsters. Finally I got a chance at hitting one and got one in the bag.( the pic doesn't do it justice. These things were huge)
There were also lots of gars around but guess what, we forgot the net
I still managed to spear 4-5 nice ones.
Kept looking around and spotted a nice size squid sitting on the outskirts of a weed bed.
Previously I can only remember once seeing a decent size squid so was quite excited.
Turns out they are quite easy to spear.
After that we ended up with another decent size squid, a big flathead and a couple of good size flounders.
We missed a couple more flatties and a decent size silver trevally.
We will be going back again soon.
Cheers,
LX.

I measured the mullet went 41 cm you can see it better in the pic I took before cleaning the fish. Flathead was 46 cm. my mate took the 2 flounders for a feed so they aren't in the pic
I must have seen a dozen or more mullet all around that huge size.
Wish I had my gar net too. Won't forget to take it nex time
This was just the first session for the season. We basically wanted to just sus it out.

Nice fish LX.
Can you catch flounder without spear fishing.
I would love a flounder on the end of my line.

yep...heaps of stuff on it if you google (a lot more productive with an underwater light and spear though....and the new LED flounder/prawn lights are awesome...heaps better than lugging around a car battery like the 'olden' days)
