Williamstown 8.10.16

Post by SteveoTheTiger » Sat Oct 08, 2016 10:43 am

Fished just south of Willy this morning from about 0730 to 1000.

Conditions were pretty rough with waves up to about 1m and a bit of a south - south west blowing. The water was pretty clean once past the Yarra. There was about 20 or so boats in the area and i didnt see anyone catching anything.

We decided to call it a day early and headed back in with nothing, unless you count the two yellow starfish i caught.

Anyway it was good to take the boat out for the first run of the season and hopefully next time we will see a bit more action.

Yeah it was a bit dissapointing but it happens.

We were lucky to not get taken out by another boat at one point. A 6 or so metre glass cuddy cabin with full clear covers etc was heading straight for us going flat out while we were anchored and fishing. Im certain he didnt see us as we were bow on to him. He must have seen us at about 100m and quickly did a 90 degee turn to avoid us with about 10 or 15 seconds to spare.. if that.

It could have easily turned out very different.

Be grateful you weren't sitting in a kayak, or you may have been on the nightly news

I used to fish from my kayak a lot, i have a paddle with yellow ends which i would wave around if i seen a boat going anywhere near me.

This was a much closer call than anything i had on the yak. It makes me think that maybe a high vis flag would be a good idea, especially in those conditions.
