salmon galore

Post by fitzy90 » Tue Sep 20, 2016 11:29 pm

Just a quick report tonight.

Went out for a fish today , plan was to scoot across to sandringham from newport ramp to see if any pinkies were around, left newport around 4.30 and started heading over. Just before the Ferguson st pier there were hundreds of birds circling so we had a squiz.

The salmon school we saw was around 100 m across and thick, threw some slugs in and got smashed before winding the reel.
kept around 30 salmon, all around the 40cm mark and threw back just as many so if any one is keen on bait collection i would head around the willy / port melb area soon.

Ended up with some pinkies as well

it was a bit blowy but a NNE wind so there is a lot of coverage from willy.

We ended up getting the pinkies at sandy near the marina on fresh salmon strips.

Am thinking to launch from Mordi at noon this Friday but after reading your post could be changing my mind

I fished Sandy weeks ago but only managed donuts, countless of undersize pinkies though...

If you're going out again on Friday I see you out there... hoping for weather to play nice in due course... tight lines!

That would have been fun, I'm still waiting to come across a big bust up in the yak.

Last year I saw a few reports suggesting that snapper were moving around beneath the salmon schools, presumably feeding off the bits of fish the salmon drop so maybe a few micro jigs (if they ever make it past the salmon to the bottom) might pick up a few reds
