I've only fished werribee river a couple of times (in a boat) n I struggled to get a bite! There's big bream in there tho I've seen em caught landbased upstream of the boat ramp!

All n all tho I'd say estuaries is where I've always struggled most, probably cause I do it the least

l agree with ducky,l used to fish hoping to catch something and every now and then l would but if you target something l reckon you really increase your chances.

Persistence is definitely key! You pick up more with more time on the water fishing. Summer will greatly increase fish activity.

U could come over to the dark side n just chase carp, easy to find easy to target n fun to fight..

Very shallow there would expect flatheads, but haven't fished for long time.

Snapper landbased in the areas you have specified are a bit unrealistic, you need water that is relatively deep, with some rocks or structure around, and yes they move around a lot so can be hard to locate consistently. Snapper like late afternoons into evening, or low light conditions.

I have spots where banjos are painful can catch 5-6 every time, but mixed in with flathead and pinkies, some days upto 15 banjos landed, grrr, problem is nearlt nobody takes them so they are forever breeding.

 I understand what your saying Tonyzee but without A BOAT or no anyone with a BOAT to go fishing with and yes it's hard to find deep water fishing Landbase.

To be honest, you're best of targeting the easier fish to start. Flatties are almost too easy to catch if you target them. SPs, bait, no bait you name it lol.

They are a voracius, predacious fish as some might say ;)

Try small sinkers, smaller circle hooks like what you use for KGW and fresh bait. Squid works well as it stays on the hook better then pillies. Cast into areas of weed bed and sand. Drop offs are great. Let the bait sit and if nothing after a few minutes, drag it along the bottom a couple meters then let sit. Repeat.

Use braid to a light fluro carbon leader and a light rod. Tide changes and dawn / dusk usually are the best times to produce.

To be honest, LB snapper is hard and requires a lot of knowledge.

As a side note, consider driving further out or somewhere different.
