Anybody catching anything decent land based?
Hi Folks,
Just wondering if anybody has been having success lately.
I have been fishing with soft plastics of various types at multiple locations for weeks now and have had very little to show for my efforts.
I have tried Gem Pier, Ferguson Pier, Altona boat ramp and rocks, Princes Pier, Lagoon Pier and the Warmies
I had a visit to the Warmies again this morning and even with the warm water flowing, there was nothing around.
Hopefully things start to pick up soon as I am really starting to lose faith, I don't expect to catch every time I fish but once every five or six trips is extremely poor.

South half of the bay is worth the trip in my opinion.

Yeah the usual suspects. Actually got a 40cm mullet too. It’s a great landbased spot. Be good if people would take their rubbish with them though. Do you know if there are garfish round there?Lightningx wrote:What did you get mate? I usually get kgw, flatties and pinkies there

Re: Anybody catching anything decent land based?
Certainly for land based the southern end of PBB seems to have been doing better this year I will agree with that. Though I do think lately that regardless of the species, generally the sizes being caught by land-based folk are small, or if they are of legal size they do not have the bulk of a well fed fish.
Try PortArlington for Whiting using pipis or try Mornington for Pinkies using pillie or squid strips. In both locations lately the fish have been undersized, but another week or so and they should be approaching legal sizes. As you would expect best times are sun up or sun down, or on the tide changes.
If you are getting desperate to hook onto something you may have extend your travels to outside of PBB and try something like Flinders, Barwon River, or Inverloch, even Apollo Bay if you fancy a drive. Don't give up, but yeah, its hard work and I know the frustration.
Good luck out there.

Yes it's annoying at times but that's fishing.
You always start to think you are doing something wrong but there just isn't much around at the moment.
Cheers for the suggestions, I might give Barwon a go.
