there are a lot of places in docklands area, north, south warf, under westgate bridge, under botle bridge and lorimer street.

Do u know where and how to catch mullet first? keep them alive with air pump ? transport to the places to catch mulloway ? At this time of the year, livies is much better option.

Rig wise, 1 hook plus a stinger hook or stinger treble hook. 4/0 to 5/0 should be enough. (if you not sure about what is stinger hook, google/youtube is your friend)

1/4 to 1/2 oz running sinker with around 20-25 cm line.

your leader to the hook should be easy 80 cm to 110 cm depending on the area

Any 8 to 10 foot rod, use a bait runner or a 4000-6000 size reel.

X2 only way you will gain experience is by spending time on the water and using the tools Fishpod has mentioned plus there are many books with all the info you will then figure out what works by trying different methods til you hit on the one that works for you. All the area's Rustie mentioned are good spots just go there and give it a shot and be prepared to put in the hours.
Another thing is to research your target species you will then work out when, where and how you are likely to catch them.
I made 4 trips to a certain area and put in many hours and I scored donuts on the first 3 trips then I used the info I gained and on the 4th trip I finally cracked the code and have had good results ever since.

I've yet to catch a mulloway at this time of year ... but you never know. Personally, I'll be targeting other fish in the Yarra for a while ... or at least that's the advice I'm giving myself until I get down to the water again.

Ive seen on another thread that your only in Year 7 why don't you try joining a fishing club in your area or surrounds. If not try your local creeks with some bait or lures first and develop some techniques and knowledge. Maybe ask some family or friends who are into fishing and tag along with them.
Start small and as you build up experience then you can look at tackling the bigger stuff.
Good luck with it all and tight lines
