Had a mate say he saw a lot of fish along the edge yesterday at high tide. Like you said, I think a rain and some hot days will see them come on. They are probably still in spawn mode.

My 17 yr old cousin from India visited me this christmas, and he politely requested me to take him fishing.
Having never caught a fish before , I wanted to ease him into this way of life.

I spent an hour or two in the garage, teaching him how to use the rod and reel, play a fish correctly. (used the free labour to help respool a reel or three) and headed off in search of the mighty mud marlin.

Twenty minutes in, he was beaming ear to ear with a nice fish just over 9 lbs.

He fought it well and the hook was just pinned in the corner of the mouth and it took him about 15 minutes to ease it in on a light drag and 4lb leader.

As we walked back to the car, he quietly enquired when we would go next.
It was on!

We next went on a drive up the great ocean road, to do the touristy stuff (boring  ) , but we stopped off at Apollo bay. I caught some squid and salmon off the pier and had him catch one salmon. We turned bits of squid in bottom bait and he had the time of his life being hooked onto the flying saucer sized stingrays.

We spent an unsuccessful time trying to catch a shark off the sand in WP. Plagued by the relentless sea lice and all we could rustle up was one just sized flattie.

By now, about 5 days in , he had gotten good enough to manage a rod and reel on his own.
I tied on a plastic and headed to the local, was a bit windy and the topwater bite was quiet. I fluked an ep first cast, after that it was mostly sub surface.

He was hopping his plastic along and had a few nice ep.

I really like that fish arrow plastic for the ep , my go to donut saver.

Time was running short and the next request was to go kayak fishing.
I tossed and turned about my options and decided to hit up one of my fav bream spots.
Did not disappoint.

He returned to India, with a big smile on his face.
I for one , could not have asked for a better christmas present than fishing with him and seeing him develop so nicely in that little time frame.

Looking forward to the future :)

Seasons Greetings everyone! Hope this is a fishy year for all of us :)
