Bemm River Bream

Post by claretone » Wed May 14, 2014 1:40 pm

Went to Bemm river and caught and released over 150 bream over the week end.
Bushy was up there as well and he couldn't believe how good the fishing was.
All were over 30cm with the biggest at 43cm and all on plastics

Here's one I got at marlo on local prawn, it was a horse caught at night, took off like a freight train on 4lb mono... I didn't measure or weigh it unfortunately..

Man 150 bream in a few days must be a world record. I would have loved to be fishing there. Good work on the release too

we were using the 100mm blood worm wriggler.
Bushy got 9 fish on 9 casts where my record was 5 on 5.
Marlo is my usual bream haunt but about 30 of us go up to Bemm every year.
My best spot at Marlo is either up the brodribb near the bridge or just on the beach to the left of the pier at the dead end on sunrise (only when the prawns are running)

Man that's just awesome. I would be so happy going in a big group like that every year. Would be heaps fun. I can't even manage to get my cousin to come with me fishing
Bushy sure knows his bream.

Awesome! I was down Bemm/Marlo myself over the weekend landbased. Marlo was a bit slower than warmer months but still got a few 40cm-ers. Great fun but a long drive away from Melbourne. We usually rent a tinny over at Bemm but decided to leave due to the rain on Saturday. The water was really low since the entrance opened up.
