A tip for the bream chasers.
Ok guy's with all the rain we had through the week here is my prediction. If you are after your first bream ( new fishers )
or anyone chasing bream they will be thick under all the city northern piers.
this has been the case for me over the years, it flushes out the river system.
prime spots are Lagoon pier and St kilda pier and Kerford road pier and not forgetting Station pier.
I don't know about piers further down I haven't tried but the ones I mentioned will fire up !
Good luck to those who fish on the weekend !

Re: A tip for the bream chasers.
I've never really tried them as bait, but considering how long they take to grow to their size , it would be a shame imo to use them as bait , plenty of other good fast growing abundant baits around to use instead of bream, imo.Dano wrote:are bream any good for bait or burley?

As rixter said they take a long time to mature so it would be a shame to use them as bait, having said that the small ones would be good mulloway bait, but mullet are more suited to live bait,
Personally I don't eat them I release my bream.

There's not many other fish that can be 3 decades old before reaching a meal for one size...FishnMiss wrote:Thanks RB

Me personally I did try bream when I caught my first many years ago, I didn't like it so I release them now, each to there own.
I don't judge others on their tastes.

Hey, there is nothing wrong with keeping a few for a feed if that's what you like to eat, providing everyone sticks to bag limits etc ,then there will always be plenty about for everyone.FishnMiss wrote:Thanks RB

They do take a long time to mature, but they are abundant and in no short supply . I've got nothing against anyone wanting to keep a few for a feed/ at any legal size, but to use them as bait would really seem just a waist imo.
I know a bream fish as bait could 'maybe' catch me a bigger fish, but there is plenty of bait fish by the millions that mature within a year or 2, so it seems more logical to use a standard bait fish for bait imo.
Don't feel guilty at all taking a bream to eat , so long as it is going to get eaten , and not just sit in the freezer until it gets thrown out.
Cheers , Rick.
