yes its a known fault, take it back to the store they should give you a replacement
or contact cranka directly..
if you get a new one, add a bit of superglue to the baseplate before using it

I returned it back to the store and they did replace it for me.
I was thinking of using supergule but not to sure on the smell.
It might put them off even with squidgy sent on it.

From another forum I frequent but if you're considering glue then this is the word from Cranka themselves:

'If you wish to add additional glue to your CRANKA crabs ... then we would recommend the use of genuine LOCTITE 435 (clear in colour) or LOCTITE 480 (black in colour)

We would recommend that you go to your local pharmacy and purchase a small syringe (30 cents at most) and inject a very small drop of either 435 or 480 Loctite into rear scent injector hole that is located under the tow point... leave the unit sitting in a flat seated position overnight to allow the glue to seep around the baseplate connection and set fully "

They work. They're not magic fish every cast stuff but they're a proven bream taker. Plenty of reports of success coming in.

Only the one for me off about 3 sessions with it. Lost it to a snag now :(
