Great catch mate,,,, enjoy your first monster and do what YOU think is right...catch big ones like that near canning street bridge, id be more worried about certain people keeping the little ones than a excited proud year 9 school boy rushing home to show his parents his first prized monster bream that half of us would of loved to catch but good to give the kid a lecture. Good work see you down the river. :nicefish!:

Well done bloke! Nice fish.
End of the day it is YOUR fish. You do as you like.
Dont listen to half the people on here. They say they release but you can never be too sure if they tell the truth. Besides the point though, as said before. If its within bag and size limit, then thums up i say.

When i go trout fishing, my aim is to always bring some home to eat. :dinner:
So i went fishing on her birthday, .. Hey! She'll have another one!

Great fish bud, an absolute cracker, can't believe you ate it out of the Nong, have seen the sludge deposits and crap on the bottom there :puke: :icon_lolz:
No law against keeping it though but I return all fish from there.
Cheers

Good catch, thanks for posting.
As others have said, nothing wrong with keeping a few for a feed.
In case anyone is unaware, there is a low degree of contamination in Yarra and Nong bream (and other fish). Not surprising given the last 100+ years where they've served as drains, for all manner of industrial and chemical waste. Only in the last 30 years they've started diverting it into sewers, and implementing better disposal and EPA monitoring.
It's worth reading the reports / advice and make up your own mind

Hard to say. It's metals and chemicals that are the worry, not bacteria. Cooking doesn't help as it remains in the flesh. Read some time ago that it can result in diminished brain function, learning disabilities etc. The effects may be too hard to prove in the short term.

Great fish. Your keen eating anything out of the nong tho.

Where abouts did you fish? I have good success there last summer around anglers tavern bridge, mainly got pinkies

Many drains running into it, water really reddish and slight smell in those spots. The main drain up past Anglers near the water board etc. apparently overflow the sewer into the Maribyrnong at times of heavy rain.
