Is a sunny day no good for Bream?

Post by Sputnik22 » Wed Apr 10, 2013 7:31 am

I've found I do better on those overcast days with a little chop on the water than the sunny days with no wind. What's the best sort of weather to catch bream?

It was sunny yesterday at docklands and people were catching bream.....saw a guy pull up three in quick succession, you could also see the bream hugging the pylons.....

I find it has more to do with water clarity.
On murky days I have been able to catch them (from the yak) with very short casts.
Days where it's clearer I have to cast further as they seem more easily spooked.
I found this at docklands to siting under the pier, if waster was clear and I could see them really easy, they where less likely to take the bait/hb/sp

I find sunny bright days with clear water , not as productive . Dirty water & overcast days are better , with some wind .

I've been catching for the last 2 days in Sunny weather, but the water is murky. 3.30pm I find they start to feed.

Simply, high sun and still water makes it easier for the fish to see you and your line dragging on the water, overcast and wind on the water makes it harder for them to see you and lure and line splash is countered by the breeze. Its the same for all lure fishing, not just bream.

Bream get easily spooked, I'd be using some fluorocarbon leader in clear water for sure.
