They do quite well in smaller rivers after a good rain for bream, mullet will take them as well. if it rained in the last day or two I'll always take a bucket of worms (even if they just come from the compost- but scrubbies are better) if I'm going bream fishing.shaynebennett wrote:Just a large-ish worm from....the scrub.... lol. Not a silly question. If you haven't been told you don't know. I don't know how to fly a plane coz no one has taught me!!! Scrubbies are a great freshwater bait, wasn't aware they were any good in the salt!!

Hi Guys
There are fish in the river but they are easily spooked. If you try the main canal near the boat ramps don't cast out too far as there is nothing there. Go to the end of the car park as there is less boat traffic.

I used to catch bream near the river mouth casting out from the car park side .Used peeled prawn as bait on a ball running sinker setup with a long neck hook size between 4 and 6. No longer chase bream there since its taste wasn't any good.

If your kids are quite young, it is a nice safe place to take them for a fish. Park at the end of the car park and walk over the first flood gate and fish between the two, there's a bit of a beach there they can play on even. As far as fish... you should catch small bream which will entertain the kids and there's always a chance of a keeper - don't go with high hopes of a feed though.

Re: Patterson river for bream
I've caught my biggest bream at patto(just shy of 1kg), although not this time of the year, the bigger bream come in during spawning season. Spew worms, if you can get them, are like chocolate, with scrubbies coming in behind them. During spawning season small crabs are the best, only the big ones tend to go for them and I've found with the crab on they'll hit the bait real hard and run, instead of suck suck sucking.

anyone know how to get into the paterson lakes area to do some land fishing or do you need to have a waterfront house to fish in there?
