tough going on the Maribyrnong Saturday 9th Feb

Decided to chase up some Bream on the maribyrnong @ edgewater yesterday afternoon.
It was one very tough session resulting in donuts and a screaming headache....... :o_0:
Temperature was perfect and when the sun came out it was great - but the bloody windy was howling and unrelenting , and there was a concert on down past the rowing club and the music was pounding away.
The wind made seeing bites on the rod tips near impossible but there were plenty of them, I just could not manage any hook ups.
I would normally say that even without catching anything it was better to be out fishing then home in the recliner......but this time the recliner may have been the better option. :(

Sounds like a frustrating session mate.
Hopefully some hook ups next time.

Did you see them? Last year I went there during hot Feb and saw hundreds of them, but couldn't catch any.

Yes, some of them be easily 40cm. Otherwise, thr usual 10cm-30cm.
Especially hot sunny days in autumn when they're pairing up to spawn. Monster breams can be seen. Hard to catch though.
I went to Nong a lot last year, even tried with a small fly.
A drop of fly spooked them, didnt even bother plonking lures. Imagine the frustration.
Caught only one small bream on crazy charlie pink fly, and that was fail hooked.
They came and looked but no bite.

I know what you mean by hard to catch!
I’ve walked along lagoon pier many times and looked over the side to see monster breams, huge they looked like snappers lol but very difficult to tempt them into taking anything!

G'day ChrisD

You get days like that, the one consolation of going home, is that you do have a sense of a "battle weary achievement" of at least having a crack.

On the, it would have been better back home on your recliner, a few of us have felt that way. Only thing, not sure if we would all fit on your recliner :-D

Couldn't see any bream this trip - water was fairly dis-coloured after the rain.
Will hopefully get back there soon enough and have better luck

I fished the nong over the weekend .
Sat morning from the yak , 14 undersize bream on softplastics. (MykiMonsters and 2inch grubz)
Sunday evening , landbased, 2 undersize bream on Crank crab.

The bigger fish are around but the smaller models are in plague proportions.
