Bream .... bail arm open or closed???

Post by Kestrel » Wed Dec 19, 2018 4:25 pm

I had the opportunity to enjoy a short stay in Paynesville recently and was talking to a couple of locals who were having a rather robust discussion about fishing with bream with a basic running (small) sinker rig. One was arguing that it is more effective to have the bail closed and line tight and allow the fish to hook themselves. The other was suggesting that better results are obtained by allowing the fish to swallow the bait and swim off without feeling any weight, and then closing the bail arm and striking.

Anyone care to share your views and experiences?

Cheers

Bail arm open or slack line is defs better unless the fish are super aggressive

Once bait hits bottom baol arm closed and belly in line with loose drag and when i see the slack take up then set hook this works well for non current areas
