Cracking bream! Great effortdezza68 wrote:Had a free hour so thought I'd try and catch something before the next set of gales blow in. Only had one bite but this is the result. Cleared out the car this morning to take the goat to the vet so didn't have a tape measure. Marks on the rod are 47cm and the fish slightly overhangs both ends. Anyway beats my previous mark of 42cm and this fish was way bigger all around.
Was a huge fish and unfortunately photos dont do it justice.

Hey dezza I may have missed it but was this on lure or bait ?dezza68 wrote:That fish is probably as old as me so didn't want it out of the water for long. I put it up against the rod so I have a pretty good idea on length but the main thing is it went back to keep growing.colnick wrote:Good day Dezza,
If you didn't want to take it home and measure it, why didn't you just run out a length of line, cut it to exact fish length and measure the line when you got home? Or have I missed something ?

It was on bait, was too windy to lure fish.

I put the picture up on the tv and sized the picture to match the rod in real life and then measured the fish, probably more accurate than doing it on the sand.

Yeah next time if in a situation like that.
Measure from the rod grip to the rod tip.
Avoid the reel area as it can be a bit tricky..
Or mark lines on the sand and release fish. Then measure the Mark's on the sand using a piece of mono go home and match it to a tape measure.
Or always carry a tape measure hahah..
These things always happen when your not prepared...
