finally my first maribyrnong bream x2
Decide that I had to get some fishing in today...being Gone Fishing Day and all.
And decided it was time I finally break my bad luck run on the Maribyrnong river.
After an hour trying around the Farnsworth Ave Bridge with zero bites I decided it was time to go for a walk, looks like the maribyrnong wasn't going to give up any Bream today, so bit of a walk was the next best thing.
After a 10 minute walk I spotted a large model bream swimming along the bank, so walked up past it and cast the bait back down river. Didn't like my chances figured the sinker hitting the water spooked it and it was long gone.
2 minutes later the line took off and I had my first maribyrnong river bream hooked, gave me quite the fight, also had to find a bit of bank I could get down to get it out of the water. Finally had it landed and it was easily the biggest bream I have ever had :super: Didn't have my tape measure but would think it was close to 35cm and solid, possibly a bit large.
After it was released I packed up and kept walking, again spotting a big one, moved past, cast back and within a couple of minutes...whack I was back on. This time I was busted off before I could even see it.
Tried this pattern a few more times with no luck, but finally managed another bream about 40mins later, not as big as the first but still gave a solid account of itself.
So finished the day with two, lost one and of the two easily being my PB.....which I had the tape measure with me.....oh well.

Top work! I have seen them like that but they will not take my bait when I chuck it to them. I have feed them bait without hooks and then popped a bit on a hook and they know the difference so you have done well.

Good thick bream there, good catch, cheers davo
It's an exhilarating feeling catching a fish
But it's an even better feeling releasing them

well done mate, they are shifty buggers, Next time try some unweighted Bait, like peeled prawn and let it float down to them.
if they are cruising the banks already then very soon there will be more of them around.

Thanks All - it has given me a whole lot of ideas for my next trip over there.
Pity the Yarra does not seem to produce as big a models as the nong. Also don't get that same view of them crusing the shallows.
Yarra is about 20mins closer.......and that is 20mins more fishing
