Got no bait.

Post by Rob1 » Tue Jun 30, 2015 11:41 pm

I was in a spot of bother today and had no bait but still intended to sit and wet the line. What should I use for bait? I've heard about people using chicken but there was no chicken in the fridge just an old lump of cheese and some bacon. So cheese and bacon was going to be it. I cube it up into small pieces and no joke in five minutes I was on. In all tonight we caught five bream and an eel. I wonder how we will go when we've got some descent bait.

haha, nice one. reminds me of a family holiday in broadbeach when I was 18. there was a river right out the front of the hotel. I decided to fish it one night. Bought an elcheapo rod and reel and some hooks. Realised I'd forgotten to buy bait. Grabbed some cabana out of the fridge and proceeded to catch 4 bream.

Now you tell me, could have done with this advice last week when we were fishing the tambo. Used prawns (local) used beach worms, used cured worms, used mussel, used scrub worms and not a bite, but about $50 poorer for all the bait.

Tried soft plastics, still no bite.

No eggs? What were you thinking?!!!!! :dontknow
Although I don't use it myself, many cod anglers use cheese for bait. I have been tempted to grab a 'shark hook' and whack a cheeseburger on it to see if I can get me a big cod! :) Perhaps a future experiment. Well done on your bait improvisation anyway.
cheers

I've caught bream on corn before while fishing for carp not far below Dights Falls. I also caught an EP while fishing for luderick with greenweed once, too!
