personally i think if you're going to be fishing the docks with bait the most productive way is to drop an unweighted prawn down the pylons and move frequently, Lures is a whole different can of worms but a fun one at that

cook and eat like snapper/pinkies. It is better than pinkies. Pinkies harden and dry up when cold. Bream remains soft and juicy....and they glow in the dark if caught in the Yarra. You can eat it with lights off

If you're fishing out the front of nab where workers take their lunch the most productive bait is bread ;)

Beware though some of them get upset if you catch their pets.

Otherwise I'd go with Maz and say unweighted prawn or on a light jighead.

Most productive hardbody would be a strike pro micro vibe

Unfortunately, the Gippsland lakes are also reportedly contaminated with heavy metals like mercury - largely due to the fallout from the Latrobe Valley power stations over the years, and some runoff from ex-industrial gold mining, apparently. There haven't been many studies done on contamination in the fish there, however, whereas there have been a few on the Yarra in Melbourne. The official line is 150g per week is ok, unless pregnant or breastfeeding. The odd fish tests higher or lower in contaminants, though, so it's something of a lottery. The snapper from the Yarra should be ok, though, since they are not resident fish. Not sure about the mulloway, but probably the same as per bream?

Yeah I'd say anything demersal or anything that eats a lot of the demersal residents is a risk. It builds up over time so ones not going to kill you by any means - but I wouldn't make it a habit.

No worries - I think it's the most well known worst kept secret at the docks :)

Just fish it on the drop around the pylons. If the bream are there and hungry it won't make it to the bottom. If you can't find ju015tl you can also use black texta or nail polish. Basically it's a mussel imitation ......

Original ju015tl on the right

And another colour after a nail polish makeover:
