Yep. Suspending lures for blacks are the go. You can always put a bit of solder around the front treble or use tungsten putty to turn a floater into a suspender. I don't buy premium lures - mainly run strike pro these days as it got too expensive for me with the premium brands. I do buy bulk off Adam (fishin.com.au) though for my bread and butter lures like the strike pro micro vibes, baby archbacks, hummers etc. I have a core collection of hards and SP which are the only ones I use and I just replace what I've lost periodically. Strike pro pygmys are recommended for the Nong by a lot of blokes ;)

I use Strike pro pygmy and also the sprogs from K-mart, they work also but with the Sprogs I find that if you drill a small hole in the body they will buble up a bit and partially fill with water and helps them suspend, theres a few others I use. If it helps, I find that by not actually retrieving the lure but by casting it out, crank it down and then just wiggle and jiggle that rod untill you got line slack and then retrieve some line and repeat

Best bream tackle shop

I've got a sprog in the tray that I keep meaning to try. The trebles look a bit average but it's a clear copy of an ecogear sx40 and they brain bream so I can't see why it won't work. The twitch-twitch pause retrieve you describe definitely seems to be the key for black bream - that and suspending it in their face seems to drive them nuts :) I've never had much luck in the Nong though - it's my nemesis. Catch bream everywhere else lol but just find the Nong to be a bit of a grind..... Anyways bit of a tangent .... Hope we answered the question on tackle shops lol

Can't beat a bassday sugar slim. If a bream doesn't eat it swimming past there's something wrong. Would have to be my best go to lure!

I pretty much learnt my breamin at the docks so I'm very specialised towards fishing vertical structure and finesse presentations in low current/tidal flow situations - I do well on blades, micro vibes and lightly weighted or unweighted soft plastics. I'm starting to fish the rivers more and more and it's like starting over again - a whole new bag of techniques required :)

The problem with the nong is that you really need a boat or a kayak so you can get to different angles on the bridges and pylons and realisticaly if you are just going to blind cast without structure then you should be really casting from the middle of the river back towards the rock walls on the bank

Best bream tackle shop

Yeah I got lent a SOT kayak so just starting to look at that. It's a pig to paddle though so it's a case of picking one bridge and giving it a work over. When I'm landbased I just walk the banks on the run in (pref morning) and cast parallel to the bank (maybe 3m out) and bring it back along the edge where the rock bank meets the bottom. I've dropped so many fish though it's been ridiculous - I know it's just bad luck but it's almost like the Nong hates me :)

Very effective method casting parallel to shore, I have noticed that from about half way through the ebb tide the bream seem to hug the bank and swin in schools upstream against the flow of the tide and yes you get alot of hits but I can't hook too many either, I think when they are in that mood they just give the lure a nudge to scare it off. All in all very intriguing and have found myself lure fishing the nong which I didn't think I would ever do. I'll crack it one day just gotta have a bit of patience
