Re: Powlett River
So got there at first light with a mate and we fished up and down from the bridge on the mouth road for about 6 hours.
We tried SP's, hard bodies and drifted unweighted chicken and neither of us got a fish.
The water was pretty dirty and moving fairly quickly so conditions weren't the best.

Re: Powlett River
Fished here a few times my mate has a beach house at kilcunda, never walk away without a fish. Pumped bass yabbies and sandworms always work a treat. Last time we went there my mate caught this fish, hes been fishing there for 15 years and never seen another once like it. I've got no idea what it is, was wondering if anyone can help me?

Re: Powlett River
That's a rock cod also called a slimy cod, pretty odd to find one in an estuary.

Cheers mate where are they usually found? We werent far up the river at all and the tide was on the way in so the waters salinity would have been pretty high.Snapper Snatcher wrote:That's a rock cod also called a slimy cod, pretty odd to find one in an estuary.

Re: Powlett River
In the bay, westernport and offshore but I have only caught a couple. It makes sense that they would head into the river every now and then as do many fish, just wouldn't be that common I would think.

Re: Powlett River
Flicked plastics and metals around down there for an hour yesterday on the way home from Walkerville.
No fish.
Bunch of other folk had a major setup on the bank with 5 people and probably 15 rods in the water said they'd been there all afternoon.
Also no fish.
beautiful place though.
