Getting back into the swing of things
After a fairly boring day studying I headed down to the local to stretch the arm and legs doing a bit of casting.
The swell was up a bit more than the forecast suggested and my plan to use a Richter plug on the surface was shelved quickly.
It's a pretty featureless beach and finding structure is a pain in the arse, but eventually I picked a spot where the smaller waves weren't breaking and I figured it might be a very shallow gutter. I peppered it with lures for about 15 minutes and eventually the slug got smashed and after the usual tussle I got a nice sambo on the sand
Turned out I'd matched the hatch fairly well, when I cleaned it he was full of whatever these little baitfish are which were almost the exact same size as the Halco Outcast I was throwing.
My phone has decided it will no longer take photos that are in focus so you'll have to put up with a blurry looking fish, sorry.

Re: Getting back into the swing of things
I cooked it up in flour which I'd added some ginger, chili, garlic and citric acid to, came up a treat.

Nice one mate, I still haven’t tried eating salmon yet. Could those smaller fish be juvenile salmon? It won’t be long until you’re back in the deep blue chasing that big ol’ breambo!

They look a bit like baby salmon although I thought they preferred more estuarine locations. I wondered if they were baby tommy ruff
That depends on how soon Eoin decides to stop making medical PPE and finishes the yak. That guys priorities...

Re: Getting back into the swing of things
Very nice 4litres On all accounts
That's the benefit of lures , , , , no need for bait, just a check of the area, a stroll and a chuck , , , , I mean Peppering
And fresh doesn't get any fresher, whack whack whack , , , , smack smack smack , , , , fillet fillet fillet , , , , yum yum yum
My expert fish ID skills (which have failed me dismally on the "Guess the Specie" thread ) enacted now would lead me to believe those bait hatch fish are , , , , drum roll , , , , Tommies (Australian Herring). They don't have the tell tail yellow eye of a Salmon (or Salmon Trout) and the backing is a bit more greyer than the greener salmon.
Dinner looks real nice, and reading the ingredients , , , , sounded nice too
Cheers, Bugs
