Fished gentleman's hours AM Friday. Started around Ricketts Pt for pinkies which had obviously got tired of waiting for me to arrive. Dropped a large pike at side of boat which took a cut pilchard on retrieval. Don't know who was more surprised, me or the fish. 3kg line no match for those teeth. Drifted for flatties in Beauie bay without luck.Out to 20 m trying to sound up a fish then back to flatties off Sandy. Did a couple of drift runs for 1 keeper. Maybe the 3 dolphins cruising past scared them off? Find fish generally don't share dolphins sense of humour! Getting a bit disillusioned as one little flattie will have to be sliced very thinly to make a meal. Around 4pm finally found some.10 fish 30/35 cm & one 45cm in an hour despite little pinkies taking most of the baits. Used to be the other way round, flatties a nuisance when snapper fishing! Dinner and great hunter status assured anchored off Rickets for an evening pinky session. Undersize in plague numbers, a couple of 35cm keepers.
Beautiful breeze all day. Sure beats workin'.
